There is a special little cafe at Bras Basah that caught our attention, and we have been there numerous times. Alvin loved the food there so much, he scored an interview with the owners themselves. Without much ado, let’s get to the point

What makes Loaves Me special?

Unlike traditional names out there serving toasts, Loaves Me bread are especially soft and spongy, yet remains in form even after being heated, or served with ice cream.  It is new in the market, brought in by the owners because they want to re-introduce a new art form of eating to the masses.

 

How long has Loaves Me been open?

It has been open for about 7 months

 

What’s behind the name “Loaves Me”? Why such a special name?

It’s because most of their products are bread from main course to desert. The name emphasis this and also sounds like “love me”, and that’s the main idea! They believe that you will love their bread after trying them.

 

Where do they get their bread from?

Their bread are freshly baked everyday and a manufacturer does it “oem style” for them by following a special recipe.

 

How did they get started?

The female owner, Leah has been testing and experimenting with different kinds of bread and various jams, butters and various other products for over 6 months before she finally found the perfect match for you.

 

Will there be any upcoming promotions?

There will be new promotions every month, for everyone out there – whether you’re a SMU student, staff or even just the general public that happened to drop by. Check us out at our FB page for more promotion and updates.

Cosy and comfortable, one can easily lose track of time in this small cafe. Books are even provided for you to read, if you feel like just spending a lazy afternoon here.

 

Our verdict on the food

Alvin : I like their Kaya toast bread. The size is just nice – not too big or small. The kaya deserves a second look at because unlike the traditional kaya taste (where all we can taste is sweetness), we can taste the coconut in this. The color is different from the regular color too – this kaya is light green.

Ernest : You all know I have a sweet tooth right? My favorite is the Nutty Caramel Shibuya Toast. Although it is not overwhelmingly sweet, the caramel goes perfectly with the toast and ice cream. It helps that they give us a generous serving of nuts too. Crunchy toast and cold ice cream matched with sweetness and nuts… it’s really yummy! They won my heart over with this.
